FRSC seeks media collaboration to check breach of road safety rules

The Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) has called for closer working ties with the media organisations, especially Radio and Television stations,as part of collective efforts to bring to barest minimum, breach of road safety rules across the highways in the country.

The Sector Commander, FRSC Niger state, Corp Commander Musa Ahmad Muhammad, made the call when he granted audience to the executive members, Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) Niger state chapter.

He said enlightenment campaigns, particularly through electronic media, radio and television, was very vital in the campaigns on road safety rules, to reduce carnage, especially during ember months.

Corp Commander Ahmad, therefore, urged SWAN members and journalists in general to assist the command in creating awareness, through their reports and as well allocate more airtime for live programmes where issues about best practices on highways would be discussed.

Ahmad said With more air time on Radio stations, the command would be able to educate more road users, including commercial and private drivers plying intra and inter-state routes, on the basic safety measures that would bring to the barest minimum loss of lives.

Ahmad,who described media practitioners as key stakeholders in road management to endure safety of life, said the the command could count on them in ensuring accident free festive season, adding that the “ember months” and special patrol had commenced across the 9 units that made up the Command.

Earlier, the Vice chairman of SWAN in the state, Mathhew Ojogbane, earlier told the Sector Commander that members of the association were in his office to seek areas of partnership with the FRSC for the growth and development of sports in Niger.

Ojogbane,who intimated his host of the forthcoming NUJ inter-Media Games/SWAN Week, solicited the support of the FRSC in ensuring a hitch-free event.

According to him, the event will also feature enlightenment on how to improve on health and mental alertness through sports.
