Articulated drivers and their colleagues driving smaller vehicles on Friday,blocked the Izon axis of the Bida-Minna road to press home their demand for the Niger State Government to reopen the road.
Our Correspondent reports that the developmnt has gripped communities at Izom area with fear as the protestants also blocked all link routes to Abuja, through Niger state over what they described as the deplorable condition of roads in the state.
The protesters, who used their vehicles to block the only major road linking Abuja through Niger state and western part of Nigeria, insisted that they would not suspend the protest until the state government reopened the road.
Investigation by the online publication revealed that vehicular movement had stopped before entry into Bida town from Mokwa axis with long queue while drivers threatened to deal with whoever dared challenge them.
The drivers, whose vehicles include some with fuel and other petroleum products, anchored their protest on the closure of the road for about six months.
Our Correspondent further reports that the drivers were also not pleased with the deplorable condition of Bida-Lapai-Lambata road which is the alternative route to Abuja, from the north to the west.
They described the road as nightmare, adding that plying the road had cost them spend many days before getting to their destinations.
Meanwhile, communities along the routes called for the urgent intervention of the relevant government agencies to avoid the developmnt escalating beyond tolerable level, noting that some of the vehicles carried fuel and other inflammable materials.
