A national committee has commenced review of pension with a view to putting smile on their retirees, according to the Inspector-General of Police(IGP), Alkali Baba.
He made the disclosure on Wednesday when he paid a one day visit to Minna, capital of Niger state.
“We will work on our emoluments, and pensions, we will work on our logistics to actualize set objectives,’he said.
On the dispute between the police and Police Service Commission (PSC),over which party is to recruit officers and men for the force,Baba said the issue had been resolved, adding that efforts were on to resume recruitment of 10,000 men and officers, this year, to boost the number of police personnel in the country.
Our Correspondent reports that is disputed has stagnated recruitment of men and officers into the police force which pegs recruitment of 10,000 personnel yearly.
“Now that the dispute is over, recruitment will commence in earnest into the force’he told officers and men.
According to the IGP, between now and 2022, no fewer than 20,000 men will be engaged into the force to boost it’s manpower.
Addressing officers and men of the police command at the police headquarters at Dutsen Kura-Gwari, Minna, the IGP said, “Our problem with the Police Service Commission, on who recruits, is over the recruitment which we started in 2020 will be completed soon.
On training, he said training and retraining of officers and men of the force would be given top priority, adding that in actualising the project, ‘Police colleges will now be made more functional and trainees in the colleges will now eat and sleep there.”
He said the committee had decided that not less than 1, 500 houses would be provided for the police between now and 2022.
He, however, called on officers and men of the force to be very prayerful for all the plans to materialise because, ‘the police have too many enemies, if you are regulating human conduct, people will not like you, therefore you must pray for our dreams to come true’.
Meanwhile, while exchanging views with the State Governor, Alhaji Abubakar Sani Bello during a courtesy visit the IGP urged parents to encourage their‘sons and daughters’ to join the Nigeria Police Force, describing ‘the organization as “a honourable one.”
The Police boss told the Governor who was represented by his Deputy, Alhaji Mohammed Ahmed Ketso,on the need for parents to allow their children to join NPF because of te social service it is providing for the country.
Governor Bello acknowledged the role by police in crime prevention, especially armed banditry and kidnapping in the state and promised to always support all the security agencies to enable them effectively perform their constitutional roles.
