By Correspondent in Lokoja
Some residents of Gadumo/Ganaja road, in Lokoja Kogi state say they have gone spiritual to ensure timely completion of Ganaja/Gadumo road as well as divine protection from the poisonous dust emanating from the reconstruction of the road and the attendant health implication to public health.
The correspondent of The Reporters recalls that the reconstruction of the 17-kilometre road commenced November 2020 as part of the government effort to make the road motorable.
Before the reconstruction, the road had become one of the facilities usually touched by your annual flood in Lokoja, thereby impeding vehicular and human movement during raining season.
Some Muslim faithful who spoke with our Correspondent at Anebo Estate mosque, located on Ganaja/Gadumo road on Friday said the urgent need to complete the road and safe residents from the terrible dust resulting from the its reconstruction also formed substantial part of their supplications to almighty Allah.
” While I prayed to almighty Allah to accept my prayer as an act of ibadah in this holy month of Ramadan, I also prayed to Him to speak to the appropriate authorities connected with the reconstruction of the road for speedy completion of the facility.
“Really, many residents of Ganaja/Gadumo areas, particularly those whose houses are located close to the road, are not finding life easy, as they have been forced to cope with dust, a development which they note may not mean well for their health on long run,” Mal. Shehu Mohammed said.
Contributing, another muslim, Alhaji habeeb Abdulmalik, who said though he was not living in Gadumo but branched to observed his jumat pray in the Anebo Estate mosque, on his way to Anyigba from Lokoja, described the rate of dust on Ganaja/Gadumo areas as pathetic.
“I understand the contractor handling the project has even stopped work for some days now, but the dust continues with its negative health implications on public health.
” I join my fellow muslim brothers and sisters in Gadumo and Ganaja area to urge contractor to please, ensure timely completion of the road and to safe the residents from inhaling poisonous dust as it has come to be known in recent time,”he said.
