Kogi signs $5m IFAD loan to boost food security, poverty reduction

Kogi State Government has signed an International Fund for Agricultural Development(IFA) Assisted Value Chain Development Programme loan of $5 million for agricultural initiative aimed at reducing rural poverty, enhance food security among the poor households and promote economic growth on a sustainable basis.

The Commissioner of Finance, Budget and Economic Planning,signed the subsidiary loan agreement on behalf of the Kogi State Government with (IFAD) in Abuja on Thursday.

The programme is essentially on the production, processing and marketing of rice and cassava in targeted LGA in the state.

The component of the programme is to support value addition, market linkages and support market infrastructure and build very strong agro business and value chain orientation to farmers in rural communities.

The other component is Smaller productivity enhancement while the third programme is management and coordination.
