Principals of public schools and owners of private schools in Kwara state have admonished not to collect third term school fees from parents and guardians while the 2020/2021 academic session begins on Monday.
The Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Hajia Fatimah Bisola Ahmed, gave the warning during the stakeholders meeting in Ilorin held at St Anthony Secondary on Friday.
She was represented at the occasion by the Director, Quality Assurance Bureau, Mrs Comfort Abioye.
The Commissioner suggested to heads of the institutions concerned to organize revision classes and placement examination within two weeks of resumption, instead of thinking of how to collect third term fees.
Ahmed disclosed that Basic Education Certificate Examination ( BECE) would start on Tuesday 6th, October, 2020, to be followed by Common Entrance on October 17
The Commissioner urged all schools to comply with the CIVID-19 guidelines to check the flattening curve of the pandemic and avoid contraction among students.
According to her,the swapping of principals to curb examination malpractices would continue in BECE and the forthcoming NECO examinations.
She said the decision to swap the principals to aimed monitoring and supervising examination and to allow external invigilators do their work effectively and efficiently.
According to the Commissioner, the approved Kwara State School Calendar for 2020/2021 Academic Session follows:
First Term – 5th October 2020 to 18th December, 2020
Second Term – 4th January, 2021 to 31st March, 2021
Third Term – 26th April, 2021 to 30th July, 2021.
