The gate to the Palace of Oba of Benin, Edo state on Saturday, witnessed breach of peace as supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP and their counterparts in the All Progressives Congress, APC lockhorned in free-for-all.

Duaglobalnews reports that the ugly development came on the heels of the September 19 Governorship election fever grips the state as political campaign gather momentum in the area.

The online publication gathered that the incident erupted when a group on a solidarity match for Captain Hosa Okunbor arrived the palace and met the group loyal to the PDP on ground to welcome the incumbent governor,Godwin Obaseki and his visitors to the palace.

The Governor and the PDP chieftains were said to be at the palace to inform the Benin monarch of the flag-off of their governorship campaign slated for Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin.

At this juncture, both groups began chanting anti-party songs and confronted each other. ‌

It took the intervention of police to bring the tense situation under control.
