A 5 year-old boy from Chanchaga Local Government Area (Minna metropolis) and two other teenagers between
8 years and 15years are among the 13 latest victims that tested positive to Corona Virus pandemic (COVID-19), in Niger state according to official statement.
Duaglobalnews reports that the new cases surfaced barely two weeks after the state government formally restricted movements across the state and as well ban on commercial motorcycles operations from between 10p m to 4a.m
The new cases, the highest daily confirmed since the spread of the disease, is contained in the official information/report released by the Niger State Taskforce on Covid-19 titled, “Covid-19: Niger State perspective 118, the state now has 79 confirmed cases.”
The five-year-old-baby is the 77th confirmed case of Corona Virus in the state while the 8 year-old victim is a girl, according to the report.
It added that all the 13 new cases were from Chanchaga Local Government Area while five out of the 13 were females.
“The 76th confirmed case is a 56 years old man from Chanchaga, he died after exhibiting all the symptoms of COVID-19. His condition became severe, his sample taken but died before the result could come back.
“The result turned out positive, making the deceased probably confirmed case and 76th in the state,” the task force said.
The Chairman of Niger State Covid-19 Taskforce and Secretary to State Government (SSG), Alhaji Ibrabim Matane has however assured of the determination of the Governor Abubarkar Sani Bello-led administration to control the spread of the pandemic to other parts of the state.
He advised the people to adhere strictly to all precautionary measures, including; wearing of face masks, keeping social distancing and as well using hand sanitizers in public places at all time.
Matane, who reminded the people that “there is still no confirmed official medication for the cure of Corona Virus”,dressed the need for them to take seriously all precautionary measures to prevent the spread of Coronavirus in the state.
“Prevention is always better and cheaper than non-existing cure,” he said.
