NGOs within and outside Kogi state have continued to extend gestures to various communities in the state, to ease the effects of COVID-19 which broke out in Wuhan in China December 2019 and spread to Nigeria thereafter.
The latest being Dual Care and HIV Prevention Initiative (DCI) and the Aids Healthcare Foundation (AHF),which distributed food items and face masks to the people of Isanlu, Iyara and Kabba communities, in Yagba East, Ijumu and Kabba/Bunu Local Government Areas.
Duaglobalnews reports the areas fall within Kogi West Senatorial district of the state.
The Executive Director of DCI, Pastor (Mrs) Roseline Alabi, while speaking with journalists in Lokoja on Monday, said the gesture was part of the organizations’ humanitarian activities to cushion the effects of COVID-19 on the vulnerable people in the state
According to her, the AHF supports DCI with fund to provide food items, face masks and washing hands apparatus as palliatives against covid-19 for three affected communities.
She added that the people were also sensitised on personal and environmental hygiene in order to prevent outbreak of infectious diseases and maintain a healthy living.
”We also advised them to always observe social distancing, regular washing of hands and use of face masks.
”We distributed food items to the vulnerable people, such as rice, beans, semo-vita, gari, beverages, grand-nut oil among others.
”We also met with the relevant stakeholders such as the religious and community leaders, market women and the youths,” she said.
Alabi commended the Federal, state government and the private sector for the steps taken so far in addressing the pandemic.
She gave kudos to AHF for having the interest Of Kogi people at heart by reaching out to the vulnerables and prayed that God almighty would continue to bless them.
Also speaking, the Project Coordinator of DCI, Mrs Gloria Adewole, said the people of the communities concerned were so impressive of the NGOs responses to the effects of the deafly disease by extending at palliatives to the vulnerables in the state.
She called on other NGOs to emulate the gesture and lend helping hands to the vulnerables and indigents, saying that such humanitarian expression would go a long way in alleviating the sufferings of the as a result of COVID-19 and other health challenges.
