Lokoja

Members of the State Independent Electoral Commission (SIEC) have been told to discharge their duties without fear and favour and conduct council election within the shortest time possible.

The Governor of the state, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, gave the directive on Thursday at the Government House,Lokoja while swearing in the members, those of the Judicial Service Commission as well as Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board.

He further called on SIEC to be free from partisan politics, ensure a level playing field for contestants and conduct,” free and fair election.”

Bello traced the delay in conducting the council polls in the state to scarcity of funds in the last four years.

On the Judicial service commission, Bello also urged its members to ensure that “Justice and equity is made available to the people.”

The Governor also called on the Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board to be innovative in the discharge of their duties, adding that they were selected based on their track record.
