Governor Simon Lalong of Plateau state has been described as the best Hajj friendly Governor.
The Executive Secretary Plateau State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board, Barr. Auwal Abdullahi, stated this when the Plateau State House of Assembly when
Committee on Parastatals and World Bank projects, on oversight, visited the board in Jos.
According to him, Lalong earns the accolade because has been very supportive of the board.
“The indefatigable Governor Simon Lalong has been very wonderful in taking care of the pilgrims coming from the state.
“Last year, the state had the highest number of sponsored pilgrims in the country.
“In the last 10 years, the board has not witnessed abscondment of pilgrims and no report of irregularities, we wish that this year’s pilgrimage will be better,” he said.
“The National Hajj Commission is planning to award our Governor as one of the best Hajj friendly Governors in Nigeria,” he said.
He said the primary responsibility of the board was to coordinate the process of hajj affairs and ensure the welfare of the state pilgrims.
Speaking earlier,the Chairman of the committee, Mr Pirfa Teym, said the was to familiarise and assess situations with a view to understanding the problems confronting the board and areas of improvement.
Tyem, who commended the leadership of the board for doing “very well in hajj exercises”, urged it to surpass its current achievement, assuring that the Assembly would to look into the areas in the board that needed improvement.
