No fewer than 15,000 persons have been affected and property worth N10 billion destroyed in the recent flood that ravaged some parts of Kwara state, according to the Governor, Abdulrahman AbdulRazaq.
AbdulRazaq revealed this while speaking with State House Correspondents after meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
He said his visit to the president was aimed briefing him on the situation facing the state, especially as regards the flood and to request for federal government’s intervention, to cushion the effect of the flood on the victims.
The governor also told the correspondents that he had secured the President’s promise to help the state, adding that the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) had also promised that the cycle for assistance would be shorter than the regular six months.
A correspondent of the Reporters, an online publication in Ilorin, recalls that the flood, occasioned by heavy rainfall, affected Ilorin,the state and its environs, making hundreds of residents homeless in addition to losing many valuable property to the flood.
The Governor and his Deputy had earlier expressed sympathy with the victims of the natural disaster and assured them that the state government would intervene to ease the difficulty facing them as a result of the challenge.
