Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo of Kogi State has approved the release of N18 million as transportation support for 1,807 members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) deployed to the state for the 2026 Batch ‘A’ Stream II service year.
Each corps member received N10,000 as part of the state government’s welfare package aimed at supporting them during their service year.
Governor Ododo disclosed this on Tuesday during the closing ceremony of the 2026 Batch ‘A’ Stream II Orientation Course held at the NYSC Orientation Camp in Asaya, Kogi State.
Represented by his deputy, Comrade Joel Salifu, the governor commended the management of the NYSC for its unwavering commitment to nation-building and youth development across the country.
He also praised the corps members for their discipline, patriotism and teamwork throughout the three-week orientation exercise, noting that their conduct reflected the values and ideals of the NYSC scheme.
According to him, the impressive display of unity and commitment by the corps members during the orientation programme was a strong indication that they would have a successful and impactful service year.
Governor Ododo explained that the orientation course, which featured Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED), sporting activities, drills, drama presentations and talent exhibitions, was designed to equip corps members with practical skills for self-reliance and productive living after service.
He urged the corps members to obey the laws of their host communities and maintain peaceful relationships with residents in their various places of primary assignment.
The governor assured them that the Kogi State Government remained committed to the protection of lives and property, stressing that the safety and welfare of corps members would continue to receive top priority under his administration.
He further encouraged the corps members to take full advantage of the SAED programme and other post-camp entrepreneurship trainings to acquire practical skills capable of reducing unemployment and contributing meaningfully to national development.
Governor Ododo also charged the corps members to uphold the virtues of discipline, loyalty, peaceful coexistence and national unity throughout their service year.
Earlier in her remarks, the Kogi State NYSC Coordinator, Chris-Moneke Chika Tochi, congratulated the corps members on the successful completion of the orientation course.
She advised them to accept their postings in good faith, remain security conscious and take advantage of the SAED programme to acquire entrepreneurial skills that would make them self-reliant after service.
The NYSC coordinator also appreciated the Kogi State Government for its support towards the success of the orientation exercise, particularly the renovation of damaged camp facilities and welfare packages provided for the corps members.
