President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated Alhaja Lateefat Olufunke Gbajabiamila on the conferment of an honorary Doctor of Science (D.Sc. Honoris Causa) in Business Administration by Summit University, Offa, Kwara State.
He described the honour as a fitting tribute to a life of service, resilience, and pioneering leadership.
In a statement signed by Bayo Onanuga,Special Adviser to the President(Information & Strategy) in Abuja on Thursday,
the President joined family, friends, and well-wishers in celebrating the 96-year-old United Kingdom–trained nurse, whose career and public service broke barriers and inspired generations.
Alhaja Gbajabiamila,the president noted,made history as the first female elected executive chairman of a local government in Lagos State, setting a standard for women’s leadership in governance.
President Tinubu praised her enduring commitment to professional excellence and community development, noting that her life’s work embodies compassion, discipline, and selfless service.
He also commended Summit University for recognising her contributions to the nursing profession and for naming its proposed College of Nursing in her honour.
According to the President, the Lateefat Gbajabiamila College of Nursing will serve as a lasting monument to her passion for healthcare delivery and human development, ensuring that her values continue to shape future caregivers and leaders.
The President further acknowledged her unwavering devotion to faith and community through the Ansar-Ud-Deen Society of Nigeria, as well as her role in raising a family distinguished by public service.
He singled out her son, Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, Chief of Staff to the President and former Speaker of the House of Representatives, as a notable example of this legacy.
As the family prepares to celebrate the momentous occasion in Lagos on Saturday, January 31, President Tinubu offered prayers for Alhaja Gbajabiamila’s continued good health and the joy of witnessing the enduring impact of her lifelong service to humanity.
