The Chancellor of Covenant University, Ota, Dr. David Oyedepo, has urged newly admitted students of the institution to embrace discipline and resist peer pressure, describing discipline as a demanding path whose rewards are invaluable.
Oyedepo gave the advice on Friday during the university’s 24th matriculation ceremony, stressing that while discipline may be painful, the pain of regret is far worse.
He challenged the students to make deliberate choices that would shape their future, noting that true accomplishment is rooted in self-control and purpose.
“Pay today and play tomorrow, or play today and pay tomorrow,” he said, adding that the value of a person’s time ultimately defines the value of their life.
Earlier, the Vice-Chancellor.of the University,Prof. Timothy Anake, reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to world-class infrastructure and a seamless learning environment.
He encouraged the new students to uphold the institution’s seven core values: spirituality, possibility mentality, capacity building, integrity, responsibility, diligence, and sacrifice.
In her remarks, the Pro-Chancellor, Pastor Faith Oyedepo, called on the students to remain focused and disciplined, describing character as the true foundation of greatness.
She warned that talent without character could become a liability and urged the students to pursue academic excellence with first-class character.
Our correspondent reports that 3,070 students,comprising 2,440 undergraduates and 630 postgraduates,were formally admitted into Covenant University for the 2025/2026 academic session.
