The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has confirmed the death of four persons in a ghastly motor accident that occurred on Sunday along the Lokoja–Ajaokuta Road in Kogi State.
The Kogi State Sector Commander of the FRSC, Mr. Tenimu Etuku, who disclosed this to journalists, in Lokoja said seven other persons sustained varying degrees of injuries in the crash.
According to him, the accident involved an 18-seater Toyota commercial bus and occurred at Jimgbe Community along the Ajaokuta–Lokoja axis in Ajaokuta Local Government Area.
Etuku said FRSC personnel rescued the injured victims and conveyed them to the Kogi State Specialist Hospital for treatment, while the corpses of the four deceased persons were deposited at the hospital’s morgue.
He added that the bus, with Abuja registration number ABC 232 XA, was travelling from Enugu to Abuja before the incident occurred.
The Sector Commander explained that the driver, in an attempt to avoid a head-on collision with an oncoming truck, rammed into a faulty stationary truck parked on the road.
Describing the incident as unfortunate, Etuku urged motorists to always be mindful of their driving environment, noting that a road may appear free but not necessarily safe.
“There is a big difference between a free motoring environment and a safe motoring environment,” he said.
“Therefore, drivers must always remain alert while driving on the highways,” Etuku advised.
