Nation Mourns as Olusegun Awolowo Jr. Dies at 62, Leaving Lasting Legacy

Olusegun Awolowo Jr., grandson of Nigeria’s iconic statesman, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, and former Executive Director/Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC), has passed away.

He was the only son of Hajiya Zainab Abah Folawiyo, popularly known as Sisi Abah Folawiyo, the celebrated fashion icon and widow of late billionaire philanthropist, Chief Wahab Iyanda Folawiyo.

Awolowo,a lawyer ,died at the age of 62.

His family announced his passing in an emotional statement on Thursday, saying his death marked the end of a life defined by public service, patriotism, humility, and an unwavering commitment to the ideals of the Awolowo dynasty.

Describing him as an exceptional statesman, a devoted family man, and a selfless servant of Nigeria, the family said his influence reached far beyond his official responsibilities.

In the statement shared by Goldmynetv.the the family said,
“With extremely heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father and grandfather, Olusegun Awolowo,” the statement read.

They eulogized him as “the world’s most phenomenal husband, father and grandfather ,steady, wise, endlessly loving, and the constant anchor of our family.”

According to the statement, Awolowo dedicated his entire life to Nigeria with “vision, integrity, passion, and unwavering commitment.”

The added that the deceased would remembered as “a true family man, a great friend, a wonderful servant of God, and a deeply beautiful human being,” whose kindness, humility and generosity left lasting marks on all who crossed his path.

“He loved his family. He loved his work. He loved his country,” the family wrote. He lived every day with purpose, humility, and a generous spirit that touched everyone who knew him,”they added.

Though devastated by his passing, the family expressed gratitude for his impactful life and the enduring legacy he leaves behind. “May his gentle soul rest in perfect peace,” they said.

Condolences, they announced, will be received at his residence daily between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.
