A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kogi State, Hon Bode Ogunmola, has expressed deep concern over the current state of the party, acknowledging that it is facing serious challenges both at the national and local levels.
In a candid reflection the PDP member shared in a statement he sent to The Reporters in Lokoja on Sunday, Ogunmola, who represents Ogori/Magongo Constituency in the Kogi State House of Assembly, expressed concern over the state of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
He admitted that the party is not in its best form and that many loyalists have become disenchanted with its current direction.
“Politics is about interest. Unfortunately, my party is not in the best of form nationally and very many people are disenchanted with the situation of the party presently.
“Honestly and sadly, things are just not working well with my party and the local government election will be coming up in some months ahead. The times are difficult for my party,”he stated.
Ogunmola further explained that while some members remain genuinely concerned about the party’s dwindling fortunes, it is difficult to convince others to stay, especially when their political interests and aspirations can no longer be guaranteed.
“Some of us are genuinely concerned about the party’s dwindling fortune, but can we in all honesty tell people not to leave, especially knowing that their interest can no longer be guaranteed as it is presently?” he questioned.
When asked about his position on the challenges currently facing his party, Hon. Ogunmola stated:
“As it is today, I am a member of the People’s Democratic Party.
“I am also the Minority Whip of the State House of Assembly in a house that is 23 APC to 2 PDP.”
Our correspondent reports that Hon.Ogunmola”s remarks come at a time of growing political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections and in the build-up to local government elections in Kogi State.
Analysts view his comments as both an honest internal critique and a subtle acknowledgment of the difficult choices confronting party members in the state.

“I am also the Minority Whip of the state house of Assembly in a house that is 23 APC to 2 PDP”.
“You know that we are actually a minority.We know for certainty, that the chief executive is doing well in the state and majority of us are happy with him as a well focused leader that is carrying the Assembly along in his decision making process.”
