The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has approved an extension of the grace period for enforcing the Tinted Glass Permit requirement to August 12, 2025.
Our correspondent reports that the move comes in response to public concerns and the Force’s broader commitment to digital reform.
The extension was announced in a statement in Abuja by the Force Public Relations Officer, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Olumuyiwa Adejobi,and a copy available to The Reporters on Saturday
He l said the decision followed extensive feedback on the ongoing reactivation of the digital application process for tinted glass permits.
The Reporters recalls that the system was originally introduced to simplify access, enhance security, and promote transparency.
According to Adejobi, the IGP’s directive aims to ensure that no citizen is unfairly penalized while the permit application and renewal processes are being improved.
“This extension comes on the heels of several concerns and feedback expressed by members of the public.
“In line with our commitment to transparent, inclusive, and citizen-focused policing, the Force wishes to affirm that it has not ignored the voices of Nigerians,”the statement read, emphasizing that public input is actively shaping the review and refinement of the permit system.
According to the Force’s image maker,the IGP has instructed relevant departments to make the process more user-friendly, secure, and accessible,both for in-person applicants and those using digital platforms.
The Force,he added ,is also working on key updates, including enhanced verification mechanisms, simplified procedures, and the removal of delays and bottlenecks that had previously caused frustration among applicants.
To prevent malpractice and promote accountability, the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) reiterated that the only official portal for applying for or renewing Tinted Glass Permits is www.possap.gov.ng, Adejobi disclosed.
He advised the public to steer clear of unofficial channels and report any unauthorized charges or cases of extortion during application or biometric capture, adding that a dedicated hotline, 09169967000, has been provided for such reports.
The NPF reaffirmed its commitment to public safety, digital innovation, and improved service delivery, thanking Nigerians for their patience and cooperation.
“We remain focused on building a police force that is responsive to the needs of the people and transparent in its operations,” Adejobi assured.
