The Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Yushau Ahmed, has announced that corps members will start receiving an increased monthly allowance of N77,000 beginning in February 2025.
In a speech delivered on Thursday to the 2024 Batch ‘C’ Stream II corps members in Katsina, Ahmed explained that the revised allowance has been included in the 2025 Federal Government budget.
“Although January has already concluded, once the budget is passed, from next month (February), you will begin receiving N77,000, replacing the previous N33,000,” he said.
He also noted that the increase was approved by the Federal Government and encouraged corps members to express their gratitude by demonstrating diligence throughout their service year.
Reassuring corps members of their safety and well-being, Ahmed further emphasized that they will not be deployed to areas facing security risks.
“We will not assign corps members to locations with security threats. Wherever you are posted, rest assured that it will be a safe and secure environment for your service,” he affirmed.
Some corps members who reacted to the news in chats with our correspondent in Lokoja on Thursday, expressed relief and happiness, saying that the commencement of the revised monthly allowance would go along way to alleviate them of the economic hardship, particularly the high cost of living.
They, however, urged the government to keep to its promise of starting the payment next month as disclosed by the the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).
