THEME: EGBIRA – ONE PEOPLE, ONE NATION- LET IT COUNT*
*PREAMBLE
Delegates at the occasion.
The 2024 Ohiku Day Convention organised by the Ohiku Egbira Descendants at Okene which was well attended by the Royal fathers and stakeholders from Opete, Miyakan and Etuno held for two days. The first day was devoted to Interactive Session while the second day was for Cultural Displays and Exhibition of Traditional and Historical Artifacts.
The Convention arrived at the following Resolutions:
*_THAT_* :
1. The imperative of *unifying* the Egbira Nation is sacrosanct to the socio- political and economic wellbeing of the Egbira Nation;
2. Egbira must intensify the campaign and Advocacy on the use of our common name EGBIRA spelt as *E-G-B-I-R-A* ;
3. Deliberate and concerted efforts should be made to secure and develop our resources considering the fact that the Egbira Nation, comprising of the three zones (Opete, Miyakan and Etuno) are collectively blessed not only by strategic locations, but also vast economic potentials;
4. We make a clarion call on the Federal Government to take more decisive steps in ensuring the completion of the laudable Ajakouta Steel Complex without any further delay, in view of the strategic nature of the project for the overall development of Nigeria at large;
5. Strenuous efforts must be made to preserve, protect and develop the land of Egbira Nation to ensure we bequeath an enduring legacy to our future generation;
6. The prevailing political reality and atmosphere in Nigeria dictates that the Egbira nation must forge the requisite unity to be on the same page with contending groups in the country to be a force to reckon with among the comity of ethnic nationalities,
7.The components of Egbira Nation must transcend their physical, geographical and social divisions and become a single solid united force in order to take our rightful and deserved position in the Nigerian political and social space;
8. The Egbira Nation must utilize their numerical strength and vast resources to ensure they no longer play second fiddle in National Matters.
9. We must mobilize and pool resources together to fund education, advocacy and economic ventures in order to strengthen our bargaining power, considering that socio economic strength is the bedrock of political influence;
10. The Egbira nation must intensify Investment in youth and leadership development to ensure meaningful development of our territories;
11. We acknowledge that Unity is our strength and together we can redefine our future in the Nigeria polity.
12. The Egbira Nation must remain unwavering and steadfast in our shared mission of unifying and uplifting our peoples and developing our territories.
