Engr. Ogbe Orits: Championing Fair Fuel Practices, Education, and Entertainment in Kogi.

In a convivial gathering, brimming with warmth and laughter, Engr. Ogbe Orits, the Coordinator of the Nigeria Mainstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) in Kogi State,on Friday, November 15, 2024,hosted members of the Federated Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Kogi State Council.

Engr.Orits captured the mood of his visitors who listened to his lively and informed discussion with rapt attention.
The courtesy visit, which took place at Orits’ office off Mount Patt road, Lokoja was filled with hearty jokes and light moments, and set the tone for an insightful discussion on Orits’ multifaceted contributions to both his professional field and the wider community.

With a smile and a quick-witted remark, Engr. Orits immediately put his visitors at ease, causing a ripple of laughter that echoed and electrified atmosphere at the occasion that vibrated the room.To the visiting journalists, It was clear that Engr.Oritd is not only a seasoned professional but also a leader who values human connection and enjoys building rapport. His warm hospitality paved the way for a rich conversation that balanced light-hearted exchanges with serious discourse about his role and his personal endeavors in kogi state.

As the State Coordinator of NMDPRA, Orits used the occasion to highlight the organization’s proactive stance against sharp practices by fuel dealers in the state, particularly under-dispensing, a practice that contributes to the mounting economic pressures on ordinary Nigerians. He emphasized how these dishonest actions exacerbated the hardships of motorists already burdened by the rising cost of living.

“These practices are not just unethical; they add to the pain already felt by the public,” Orits noted, stressing that the NMDPRA had taken decisive action against perpetrators.

“We’ve arrested and fined those responsible, and this serves as a deterrent to others who might be tempted to follow in their footsteps,” he warned.

The dialogue then shifted to Orits’ other significant achievements, particularly in the realm of safety. He proudly shared that Kogi State had been free of fatal gas explosions over the past one year, attributing this cheering news to the rigorous safety protocols and regulations enforced by the NMDPRA.

He expressed delight that through ongoing monitoring and the enforcement of stringent safety standards, the risk of such disasters had been minimized,ensuring public safety while promoting stability in the energy sector.

Aware of the immense responsibility as coordinator for the task ahead, Engr. Orits sought the cooperation of the chapel members to support his efforts.

The conversation then took a more personal turn, with Orits reflecting on his life beyond the office. Known for his love of entertainment, he revealed his cherished role in helping a Kogi State contestant emerge as the champion of the Miss Nollywood competition.

He said that his involvement in the entertainment industry, however, is just one facet of his passion for social causes.

“I’ve always believed in giving back to the community,” Orits said and his voice was filled with conviction. “That’s why I’ve also provided scholarships for bright but financially disadvantaged students in Kogi, helping them achieve their educational dreams. It’s a small way of making a difference,”according to the NMDPRA boss in the state.

This philanthropic streak was praised by the chairman of the Federated Chapel, Mr. Mike Abu, who commended Orits for his exemplary leadership and avowed commitment to the well-being of the people of Kogi State.

He noted that, in addition to his official role, Orits’ contributions to education, entertainment, and his advocacy for fair fuel practices had significantly improved the lives of many in the state.

Mr. Abu also assured Orits of the Chapel’s full support, emphasizing that the group’s strong grassroots network would be instrumental in amplifying the NMDPRA’s work and helping to expose sharp practices in the fuel industry in the state.

In a moment of reflection, Engr. Orits expressed gratitude for the recent award bestowed upon him by the Kogi State government, recognizing his outstanding service delivery.

“This award is a reminder that we are on the right path,” he said, adding that it would inspire him and his team to continue working diligently for the betterment of the state.
