Kwara State Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq has approved a financial bonus equal to the monthly PAYE obligation for all civil servants, including local government workers, to alleviate economic pressures.
This emergency support measure will be in effect for at least three months, as announced by Finance Commissioner Dr. Hauwa Nuru.
“This bonus is designed to bridge the gap created by the recent PAYE deductions resulting from the implementation of the new minimum wage,” she explained. “It aims to ease the transition as workers adjust to the updated PAYE system in accordance with the Personal Income Tax Act.”
The commissioner said that the bonus payments would commence in October and continue through December 2024, marking a significant effort by the governor to support the workforce.
She urged workers who have not yet registered with the Kwara State Residents’ Registration Agency (KWSRRA) to do so promptly, adding that those without registration would not receive the bonus for November and December.
It was also noted that labor unions have agreed to refund the special levy previously deducted from workers’ salaries and will suspend further deductions until further notice.
“Governor Abdulrazaq’s directive to implement this relief reflects his dedication to the welfare of the Kwara workforce,” Dr. Nuru said.
