Kogi State Internal Revenue Service (KGIRS) has achieved significant milestones under the leadership of its Executive Chairman, Alhaji Salihu Sule Enehe in a determined effort to secure Kogi State’s revenue and enhance economic growth and development.Guided by his vision of a fair, efficient, and transparent revenue system, KGIRS has recorded remarkable successes, including a 70% success rate in its crackdown on illegal tax collectors.
Alhaji Sule’s drive to reform and strengthen Kogi State’s revenue systems has led to the arrest of 44 unauthorized collectors, a move designed to deter illegal activities and ensure that rightful tax revenues benefit the state.
During an interview with some journalists at his Lokoja office recently, Enehe expressed delight how the crackdown is reducing unauthorized collection activities, bringing greater accountability and transparency to tax collection in the state.
He said to bolster these efforts, KGIRS launched a wide-reaching public awareness campaign, installing billboards across the state’s three senatorial districts.
Keen watchers of positive development in KGIRS agree that the campaign is a testament to the agency’s proactive approach, empowering citizens with knowledge on recognizing and reporting illegal tax activities.
The Executive Chairman,while speaking to members of the fourth estate of the realm, said the Service with a financial growth manifesting in its he strides which extend beyond enforcement. To this end,KGIRS has collected over N19 billion toward an annual target of N30 billion as of September, a noteworthy accomplishment given the state’s economic climate.
“With our current momentum, we are confident in meeting our year-end target,” said Enehe. He attributed this success to dedicated management, committed staff, and citizens who recognize the value of their contributions to the state’s prosperity.
He was quick to add that KGIRS’s revenue target is not just a figure but a crucial element in funding essential state projects and services to boost dividends of democracy for kogites, as exemplified by the infrastructural and human development impact of the administration of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo.
In addition to the plethora of achievements of the Service under his leadership,Alhaji Enehe has articulated a vision which indicates that taxes, when rightly collected and deployed, should drive prosperity, not burden the people. This principle, he believes ,is shaping KGIRS’s operational ethos, fostering trust, and encouraging more individuals and businesses to comply willingly with tax obligations.
Revitalizing infrastructure for enhanced efficiency, when led Journalists on a recent tour of the renovated KGIRS headquarters, Enehe showcased the newly renovated facilities—a project completed at a cost of N175 million, contrary to rumors speculating higher expenditures of N500 million.This renovation , he said symbolizes KGIRS’s commitment to creating a professional, efficient environment that reflects its goals of transparency and service.
Prioritizing staff welfare for peak productivity, Alhaji Enehe’s commitment to KGIRS extends to its team. Recognizing that a motivated workforce is essential to achieving the agency’s goals, he assured employees of regular and due promotions as well as accrue benefits. “Our staff’s well-being is paramount, and we are committed to fostering an environment that supports their growth,” he assured.
