The Police Public Relations Officer PPRO for the Police Command in Kogi state,SP. William Ovie Aya, says all the 14 persons kidnapped in the state last week have regained their freedom.
He made the disclosure in a telephone interview with our correspondent in Lokoja on Friday.
Earlier on Tuesday,the PPRO told The Reporters, through the same challenge of communication, that men of the command, in conjunction with other security agencies, had been deployed to Olamaboro Local Government Area of the state to get the victims released.
He added that in the initial effort, the driver of one of the two buses they were traveling with was rescued.
Sources said the victims were kidnapped on Inele-Eteke – Ogugu new road in Olamaboro Local Government area of the state on Saturday, February 3, on their way to Abuja.
According to Google,Kidnapping is derived from “kid” = “child” and “nap” (from “nab”) = “snatch,” and was first recorded in 1673.
Google added that the word was originally used as a term for the practice of stealing children for use as servants or laborers in the American colonies.
However in modern world,kidnapping has become a serious crime in which innocent persons are taken away by force, deceit, or threat and detaining them against their will.
Various literature concerning kidnapping shows that the perpetrators of the henious act have reasons for committing such crime, including the enslavement of their victims, marriage to their victims, and extortion of ransom.
Google further explains that despite strict laws, serious efforts by law enforcement, and vigorous prosecution, kidnapping continues to be a problem in the world today with victims paying supreme price(death) for commiting no offence.
