Three women on Wednesday lost their lives in the Gboko area of Benue State, north central Nigeria, as they were hit and crushed to death by a hit -and-run driver.
Eyewitnesses revealed that the incident happened on Wednesday evening while the victims stood along the new road in Gboko town, either making efforts to cross the road or wanting to board a vehicle to their destinations.
Citizen NewsNG gathered that the driver of a black highlander drove the vehicle ran into the three victims, after he veered off the road.
The driver was alleged to have picked race and disappeared into the thin air with his vehicle while the victims were rushed to Baki clinic in Gboko where they were confirmed dead by the medical personnel, on arrival.
The Public Education Officer, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Benue State,Arc Oladele Meshach, directed our correspondent to officers operating in the area who confirmed the incident.
The FRSC officers said that it was a lone accident, adding that the driver ran into the victims by the road side, killing them in the process.
“As of this morning (Thursday), the driver of the vehicle has not reported himself to
the police,” the road safety officer said.
