Uneasy calm set in on Saturday in Osogbo, the Osun State capital as protesters thronged the ancient town to protest Friday’s Osun election petition tribunal judgment which went in favour of former governor Adegboyega Oyetola.
Our Correspondent reports that the protesters blocked the busy Osogbo-Ikirun road, Gbongan-Ibadan road, Oke-Fia, Old Garage and Freedom Park.to express their resentment on the issue.
The Reporters gathered that the protesting residents were seen carrying placards of various inscriptions, disrupting the free flow of traffic, harassing and beating up minibus (korope) drivers,not spearing commercial motorcyclists, populariy called Okada.
Our Correspondent further gathered that many commuters were stranded due to the development as well as forcing many business owners to close shops and business premises.
The Reporters also gathered that residential areas were, however speared the rod of the protesters as the residents of such area went their lawful activities devoid of intimidation by the protesters as at the time of this report.
Feelers from the state showed that the protests also spread to towns such as Ikirun, Ilesa, Ilobu, Iwo, Ile-Ife.
Reacting to the development, the Osun All Progressives Congress (APC) has expressed concern and called on the Inspector General of Police, Alkali Baba Usman, to intervene and stop to threat to lives and property rocking the state.
Tajudeen Lawal, the acting Chairman of the party in the state,made the call in a statement made available to Journalists in Osogbo.
Lawal also pleaded with the IGP to urgently prevail on the leadership of the Police Command to prioritize protection of lives and property of the people of the State.
The Police Public Relations officer PRO, for the Command in the state, Yemisi Opalola, said that the situation had been brought under control.
She said, “More men have been deployed to the identified spots where roads were blocked to traffic. The situation is under control.”
