Kogi retirees express relief after 3 weeks of non-payment of pension

Relief has come the way of retirees on the payroll of the state government after three weeks of anxiety over non payment of their pension, as they started receiving alert for the payment of their March pension on Wednesday

The Correspondent of The Reporters in Lokoja,who visited the Nigeria Union Journalists NUJ Press Centre Lokoja on Thursday reports that some of the retirees, who worked with the state government before retirement were seen beaming with smile as they confirmed the cheering news to Journalists.

Our Correspondent gathered that retirees who received their monthly pension have started receiving their from First Bank, Union Bank,UBA and Zenith among others.

Our Correspondent recalls that while the skeletal payment of pension was on, the Commissioner for Finance and Budget Planning, Asiwaju Asiru Idris, attributed the delay in payment of pension to the challenges associated with network in transferring the money from one bank to another to effect the payment.

However, one of the pensioners, cut up in such cobweb described his experience as liken to horror, adding that he could not shoulder most of his family responsibilities due to the non-payment, a development he added brought to him a lot anxiety.

He urged the state government to guard against reoccurence of such problem.
