There are indications that 87 Nigerians are still trapped in a school basement in Kherson, Ukraine.
Jeremiah Akpan, a stranded Nigerian second year maritime navigation undergraduate said, “our lives are in danger”
He alleged that Russian soldiers were raping African ladies also trapped in the community.
The Nigerian Standard newspaper reports that the students tried to leave Ukraine thrice but got threatened at various checkpoints by Russian army wielding guns, while some African students experienced failed attempts to escape.
“Fully armed Russian soldiers checked the students’ passports and bags, ordered them to return their luggage to the cab, forcefully collect any money found on them (students). The driver was forced to return to Kherson while the students were blindfolded and held inside a military tank for about two hours,”he disclosed.
The student said that soldiers drove the tank to an unknown destination and shoved the students into a building.
He added that thee Russian army untied these exhausted students only to find themselves in a dark room with some Ukrainians, where they were treated to unimaginable sexual assault’ the Nigeria Standard newspaper stated.
Some Nigerians have been airlifted back home in the past few weeks, while efforts are still on to bring others back.
