Taraba crisis: FG distributes building materials, foods to 1,800 victims

The Federal Government has distributed building materials and food stuff as relief to 1,800 victims of communal crisis in Karim Lamido, Ardo Kola and Lau local Governnent Areas of Taraba state.

Mr Mustapha Habib, Director-General, National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), while flagging off the distribution in Lau on Saturday, said that the items would be shared amongst 300 households.

Habib, who was represented by Mr Ladan Ayuba, Head of Operations, NEMA Adamawa/Taraba office advised beneficiaries to judiciously use the relief materials for the intent they were made for.

He also advised them not to sell those items to marchants, adding that the purpose for the provision of the items was for them to serve as succour to victims of crisis in the area.

Habib commended victims to maintain peace among them and support government peace building processes.

He listed the items donated by NEMA as roofing shits, cement, nails, rice,beans, vegetable oil, tomato paste among many other items.

The director-general also hinted that the distribution of the relief materials was sequel to request by Mr Danladi Baido, House of Representatives member representing Karim Lamido, Ardo Kola and Lau Federal constituency at the lower chamber of the national assembly.

Habib gave assurance that the items would get to the original targeted victims of the crisis in the area.

Speaking, Mrs Hanatu Ishaya, one of the beneficiaries, from Lau local government area, thanked Federal government for the gesture.

Ishaya said that the items would enable her and her colleagues the opportunity to return to their original homes.

Contributing, Mr John Saidu, another beneficiary from Ardo Kola Thanked Baido and NEMA for the assistance, saying that the relief materials would go along way in ameliorating their hardships.

Our Correspondent recalls that affected local governments were plunged into communal crisis whic seeh rendered several of their residents homeless.
