The adoption of the National Livestock Transformation Plan(NLTP) by Nasarawa, Plateau and Adamawa states has been described as a progressive decision that would add value to the nation’s agricultural value chain.
The Chairman of the NGO, Niyi Akinsiju and Secretary, Cassidy Madueke in a statement in Abuja said that the adoption of the plan was a golden opportunity for further advancement in country’s agricultural endeavor
The NGO noted that the plan was announced by the National Economic Council (NEC); headed by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.
BMO added that adoption of the plan by the three states was also a welcome relief to all stakeholders, considering the controversy the issue generated a year ago.
“We want to acknowledge that the NLTP will provide farmers and herders, opportunity to live and mingle together in a community where basic amenities like water, electricity, roads, schools, hospitals will be made available.
“What we are witnessing is the creation of economic clusters that will enhance the living standards of average Nigerians.
“Based on the acceptance of the plan by the three states, it is clear that the decision to key into the National Livestock Transformation Plan was voluntary, aptly highlighted by the Governor of Ebonyi State, Engr. David Umahi.
“He spoke on behalf of the council after their recent meeting at the Aso Rock Villa, Abuja. So it has put to rest the controversy surrounding the NLTP.”
BMO expressed optimism that the establishment of the economic clusters would reduce poverty in the affected states, especially as the Federal Government will give them necessary financial support.
“Additionally, the NLTP will reduce the perennial farmers–herders’ clashes as both will live together and mutually benefit from each other’s area of strength.
“We also commend the President Buhari administration for its vision in conceiving the National Livestock Transformation Plan, as it will go a long way to improve the socio-economic condition of average Nigerian, the two officials said.
