Primary school teachers in Niger state have been directed to resume sit at home if their December salaries are paid on percentage.
The Chairman, Nigeria Union of Teachers NUT Niger state wing Comrade Akayago Adamu Mohammed, gave the directive in an interview with Journalists,shortly after the opening ceremony of the 2021 Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the NUT Endwell Micro Finance Bank limited.
Comrade Akayago Adamu Mohammed maintained that primary school teachers, after working tirelessly, would no longer collect monthly salaries on percentage, a debelopment he said is against labour laws.
According to him,there is no clause in the labour law that says or stipulates that salaries of workers, teachers in particular should be paid on percentage by any government, be it federal, state and local government, for whatsoever reason or due to economic crisis.
He lamented that for the past five months, primary school teachers across Niger state had been receiving their salaries on percentage, this the NUT chairman observed had negatively affected them making it difficult for them to meet the needs of their families.
If there is no positive response from Niger state government by the end of this month (December), the NUT chairman said, his members in primary school would have no choice than to sit at home until their demands for a 100 percent payment of their salaries are met.
