The 2021 annual Fugar Day celebrations in Etsako Central Local Government of Edo State have begun with prayers by religious leaders and Community Elders for peace and security during and after the weeklong festival.
The National President, Fugar Progressive Union, FPU, Worldwide, a socio cultural group, Barrister Richard Anetekhai, led some members of Exco in worship at the City of God Bible Church, Fugar.
At the service, the Pastor in charge, Reverend Godwin Akhanemhe, who is the Christian Association Chairman, in the local government, thanked God for another celebration of Fugar Day.
“I commend you all the officials for seeking the face of God before the commencement of activities for Fugar Day” Reverend Akhanemhe noted.
Similarly, the Executive members also visited the palace of Anwu, the oldest man in the Community, Pa Dirisu Idemoh, who prayed for peace and success of the cultural festival. Pa Idemoh also prayed that God should grant journey mercies to those coming to grace the events.
The Fugar Day celebrations modelled after other global cultural festivals and carnivals will feature Fugar Youth Summit with the theme, ” Paradigm Shift for Youth Entrepreneurship and Development on Monday and Tuesday.
Key Speakers at the two day conference include Engr. John Eshiemokhai, High Chief John Aigbokhaode, Chief Jacob Okaishe and Ambassador Godfrey Otoaye.
Other events listed to be showcased according to the Organising Committee at the weeklong celebrations are cultural procession and public lecture at Utagbabor, Cultural exhibition, Social night, visit to tourist sites like Ogodogodo cave and Award to deserved Fugarians.
FPU President has assured citizens and visitors of a memorable and rich cultural potentials of Fugar and Avhianwu clan.
” Our main focus is to promote this cultural festival to attract national and global recognition as a tourist destination of choice” Anetekhai assured.
Our Correspondent, who went round the town reports that already, Fugar, the headquarters of Etsako Central Local Government area of the, is wearing a new look ahead of the celebrations, which will end with a grand finale on the 27th December, 2021.
