The National Population Commission (NPC) says it has completed house listing and embarked on capturing data of citizens in the various communities in Kogi state, as part of efforts to deliver to Nigerians the 2022 census with good results.
Prof. Jimoh Habibat-Isah, NPC Federal Commissioner in Kogi, who disclosed this in an interview with newsmen in Lokoja on Wednesday, expressed confidence in the reality of the exercise next year, citing feelers emanating from the success of the ongoing pretest toward the exercise.
The NPC boss in the state added that the exercise was not only satisfactory but served as a positive sign that the commission had been equipped and fully prepared for the 2022 Census.
He said: “The pretest census exercise, which commenced on Dec 3, in the state is going smoothly and would be rounded up on Friday, Dec. 10.
“I wish to assure the Nigerian public that NPC shall get it right in 2022, to enable the government plan well for the citizens, the growth and development of the nation,”he said.
According to him, the enumeration is being done digitally, adding that the commission had put aside the analog system and getting better results with the improved system.
“As we are conducting the census digitally without any paper, the type of software we are using has been upgraded and functioning properly.
He commended the people of the state for their cooperative attitude toward the exercise as exemplified by their enthusiastic response, coupled with truit to all the questions asked by the commission’s officials executing the exercise.
The commissioner also gave kudos to members of staff of the commission for their resilience and dedication towards the smooth conduct of the pretest, adding that their positive served as prelude that would ensure the success of the 2022 general census.
