Residents of Ilorin, the Kwara State were greeted with tragedy in the early hours of Thursday as an articulated vehicle knocked down and killed a middle aged man on the busy post office road
Sources told our Correspondent that the man met his death at and 10:15 a m in the hand of the driver who sped off from the scene of the accident with the vehicle to avoid arrest.
The Reporters further gathered that luck however ran out of the fleeing driver as he was caught up before getting to Offa Garage and beaten mercilessly by angry mob who almost set his vehicle ablaze before some personnel of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC came to his rescue.
The security personnel were also able to prevent the vehicle from being set ablaze.
Confirming the incident to newsmen, the spokesperson of NSCDC in the state,Babawale Afolabi, said the victim was trying to extort from the driver of the articulated vehicle when the tragedy struck.
” The incident occured at around 1015 hours on Thursday when the victim, who was also a driver,was trying to collect money from the truck driver.
His foot was said to have slipped off the vehicle and subsequently fell down on its rear tyre and got crushed to death,” Afolabi said.
Officers of the NSCDC crisis management Department and Kwara State Transport Management Authority KWATMA) later evacuated the remains of the victim from the scene.
