Anguish, anger and sorrow, snowballing nto strong feeling of displeasure, took centre stage on Sunday evening at Enagi axis of Mokwa-Bida road where two articulated vehicles collided, leading to loss of lives and property worth millions of naira perished.
Enagi is the headquarter of Edati Local Government Area of Niger.
Our Correspondent gathered that the accident involved an articulated vehicle belonging to a popular cement company in Nigeria and another one carrying diesel .
Sources said property touched in the accident include buildings, electric poles and cables, adding that the articulated vehicle carrying diesel skidded off the road after being scratched by the cement company’s vehicle and went into flames.
Eye witness account also told our correspondent on phone that, a yet to be ascertained number lost their lives while scores who sustained various degrees of injury were rushed to a nearby health facility.
“The driver of the articulated vehicle carrying diesel, maybe he was trying to manoeuvre his way in opposite direction to avoid bad portion of the road or that the road is too narrow to accommodate the two vehicles, scratched the body of the other vehicle,skidded off the road and fell on some shops and buildings”.
The eye witness further said that, many people were caught up in the inferno resulting from the accident,including persons inside their shops and residential buildings, many of who lost their lives.
The online publication further gathered that as at 6p.m on Sunday, the articulated vehicle was still burning and the fire spreading to other buildings.
Usman Baba, one of the residents of the community, said four charred bodies were seen at the scene of the crash while injured were rushed to a nearby health facility.
Baba further disclosed that several cars and motorcycles were also consumed by the inferno, which he noted raged for several hours before a combined team of State Fire Service and Federal Road Safety Commission came to the scene.
