The management of the Nasarawa State University,Keffi has expressed determination to continue to be gender sensitive with a view to giving more opportunities to women to enable them make their input to the development of the institution and the nation in general.
The Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Suleiman Mohammed, gave the commitment at a- two-day Gender Week 2020 in Keffi, organised by the Centre for Gender Studies of the institution.
The week has theme,” Gender and Inclusive Development”, focusing on marginalised groups.
Represented by Prof.Olayemi Akinwumi, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics), Mohammed louded the centre for organising the week and urged it to sustain the activity to ensure that the university derive maximum benefit from its services.
“I must commend the centre for the giant steps being taken on the concept of gender issues well as inclusive development.
According to the Vice-chancellor, the effort of the centre will afford the women and other groups the opportunity to participate and contribute their quota to the development of the education sector, the state and other segments of the society.
He also expressed optimism that that it would ensure peace and attract speedy development to the state.
Mohammed also expressed the commitment of the Senate of the University to make institution a world class outfit and boost the education.
Dr Hauwa’u Mainoma, the Director of the Centre, earlier in her speech, said that the event had the characteristic of an exciting and educative programmes with the theme.
She said the theme was carefully chosen to rhyme with the various calls on the need to factor in gender issues, particularly the marginalised groups in the societal development process.
The director said the concept of the event was in line with the understanding that development would be effectively achieved when all facets of life and well- meaning groups were included.
Mainoma revealed the event focus on drug abuse and youth development, with a view to knowing the how drug abuse had increased, over the years, and how to curb the menace.
