NUC accredits 23 academic programmes of Al-Hikmah University – VC

The National University Commission (NUC) has given full accreditation to 22 academic programmes of the Al-Hikmah University, Ilorin.

The institution’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. Noah Yusuf, who made this known on Friday at a news briefing in Ilorin, said that only one of the 23 academic programmes presented for accreditation was given interim accredition by NUC.

He explained that the full accreditation of the 22 out of the 23 academic programmes was valid for five years.

The VC said that the only course given interim accreditation by the NUC for two years was Information System until 2022, which is new course.

According to him, academic programmes with interim accreditation status after two years visit shall revert to denied accreditation status.

Yusuf explained that out of over 50 academic courses offered by the institution, only 23 were due for re-accreditation, including some new courses in 2020.

He listed the courses as follows: accounting, banking and finance, business administration, public administration, arabic, history and international studies, islamic studies, medical laboratory, public health, education biology, education computer science, library and information science, biochemistry, industrial  chemistry, petroleum chemistry, microbiology.

Others,he added, were cyber security, information system, physics with electronics, economics, mass communication and political science and conflict resolution.

Prof. Yusuf said that Al-Hikmah University was the first faith-based(muslim) private university in Nigeria with emphasis on moral and spiritual uprightness in training students.

He further disclosed that it was the only university in Nigeria with monitoring initiative for secondary schools in its community.

The VC appealed to the media to support and publicise the university’s activities, in its quest to provide quality education to students.

Yusuf also called for the support of the government and other stakeholders in the delivery of its education mandate to Nigerians.

He said the university had enjoyed uninterrupted academic programme in its 16 years of existence, adding that even during COVID-19 pandemic, the institution was running its programmes on-line without any hitch.
