Ekiti traditional ruler regains freedom in Kwara—Police

The Obadu of Ilemeso Ekiti in Oye Local Government Area of Ekiti state, Oba Oyewunmi, kidnapped in his state, has regained freedom in Obbo Ile, Kwara state, according to the police.

The Police Public Relations Officer( PPRO) for the Police Command in the state, ASP Sunday Abutu,who disclosed journalists in Ado-Ekiti on Tuesday said that the traditional ruler was released in a forest in Kwara after six days of captivity.

“I can confirm that the ruler has been released from captivity. He has also been reunited with his family.

“He is receiving medical attention in one of the facilities in the state as a result of the trauma he went through,’’ Abutu said.

Sources said the Oba breathed air of freedom barely 24-hours after a family source said that his abductors demanded N20 million ransom for his release though the online application cannot confirm if ransom was actually paid

Our Correspondent gathered that six gunmen stormed the palace of the Oba and kidnapped him in his palace by six gunmen at about 8.30p.m.beating everyone sighted in the palace, including the traditional ruler.

The kidnappers were said to have contacted the family last Saturday, demanding N20 million ransom to secure his release.

Commenting on the issue, the Corps Commander for Amotekun in the state, retired Brig-Gen. Joe Komolafe, said the release of the traditional ruler was secured at a place in Obbo Ayegunle, Ekiti Local Government area of Kwara with the help of the Kwara vigilance group, adding that no ransom paid for the traditional’s release.

According to him,the Oba’s release was the combine efforts of Amotekun and the Vigilantes from Kwara State.
