Niger state government has released 30 students of Government Science College (GSC), Kagara to their parents after 10 days captivity by bandits while two others; Ezekiel Danladi and Solomon Bulus whose parents/guardian did not show up will be taken to their various homes by the state government.
Speaking at the brief profiling and documentations ceremony which took place at the Niger State Development Company (NSDC), Hotels and suites, Minna, the Commisioner for Education, Hajiya Hannatu Jibrin Salihu, urged the victims not to contemplate abandoning their education on account of their bitter experience, adding that doing so would mean destroying their future.
The Commissioner, who argued that the bandits might have decided to indulge in evil because they were illitrates, added however that the victims should see their abduction as a desired push for them to continue their education and set standards for miscreants.
“Never contemplate abandoning your education because of the trauma or what you went through but be encouraged the more to finish so that you can decide the fate of bandits or all other forms of security chllenges bedeviling not only Niger state but the entire country,”she advised.
The Comissioner, who described the student that was shot during the attack, late Benjamin Habila, as ‘a Hero’, she enjoined other students to take their education seriously to safeguard their future, reminding them that their parents looked up to them for survival in their old age.
On the date for re-openning/resumption of the school, the commissioner said the state government was yet to fix a date for the re-openning and resumption of students of Government Science College, Kagara who had been handed over to their parents.
The Commissioner speaking against the backdrop of fate of Senior Secondary (SS 3) students who would be writing their final examinations soon, including National Examination Council (NECO) and West African Examination Council (WAEC) may have been affected by the kidnap however said, “We are working out something promising for them.”
Meanwhile, Ezekiel Danladi and Solomon Bulus, two students of the GSC, Kagara whose parents/guardian were not on hand to claim them will be taken to their various homes by the state government agency handling the re-union and reintegration exercise.
As at the time of this this report however, Ezekiel Danladi and Solomon Bulus, SS2 and SS3 students of the school respectively were seen within the NSDC premises under the watchful eyes of the police and other security agencies monitoring the exercise.
