Call it paying back to the school that laid the solid foundation for their numerous accomplishments in all spheres of human endeavour today, and there will be no any oita of mincing words.
February 25, 2021 has gone down in the history of Government Secondary School, Afon in Kwara state with the 84 set of the 46-years-old institution commissioning a gate they built with their money for their alma mater.
As expected, the colourful ceremony drew the attention of the old students of the school,not only to show appreciation for their alma mater, but strengthen the bound of unity of purpose and enhance re-union as well as boosting national cohesion,irrespective of social, economic and political affiliations.
Speaking at the occasion, Prof. Suleman Ambali, an 84 set of the school, assured the school that the commissioning of the gate marked the beginning of other plans old students of the had in mind to contribute to the development of their alma mater.
He advised the students and staff of the school to use the gate for the purpose intended in order to maximise its advantages.
The Reporters reports that both the current and old students of Gss Afon were seen exchanging pleasantries, while some old students delved into recalling old experiences while in the school among other atmosphere of conviviality.
The occasion which was also graced by top state government officials ended with the urge to other sets of the school to key into the collective efforts aimed at uplifting their alma mater from the shackles of infrastructural doldrum.
Our correspondent further reports that prior to the commissioning of the gate, the 81,82 and 83 sets had made substantial financial contributions for the repairs of the moribund borehole in the school, its examination hall and clearing of bushes that took over the premises of the school, among others.
The Reporters recalls that Gss Afon, established in 1975 by the regime of Maj-General George Agbazika Innih of the blessed memory.
The school has so far produced professors, medical doctors high court judges, top technocrats, politicians, captains of industry, media consultants, military and para-military and others making valued inputs to overall development of Nigeria and the shores of the country.
