The Police Command in Kogi State says it has has taken a bold step in strengthening the link between security and environmental protection as Commissioner of Police, CP Naziru Bello Kankarofi, on hosted Mr. Edidiong Etefia

Our Correspondent reportd that Etefia is a notable climate advocate, while his visit to Lokoja formed part of his nationwide cycling tour to raise awareness on climate change.

The visit, which took place at the Command Headquarters, marked a strategic collaboration aimed at promoting environmental sustainability and encouraging communities to participate actively in climate action.

During the engagement, CP Kankarofi and Mr. Etefia led a symbolic tree-planting ceremony, underscoring the Police Command’s commitment to the Nigeria Police Green Initiative—a programme designed to integrate eco-friendly innovations into policing operations nationwide.

Mr. Etefia, who is cycling across Nigeria to inspire climate responsibility, said his mission is to mobilize citizens, institutions, and security agencies toward collective efforts to combat environmental challenges such as deforestation, flooding, and extreme weather events.

Responding,CP Kankarofi described the visit as both timely and necessary, stressing that environmental degradation contributes to insecurity, displacement, and community vulnerability.

He affirmed that the Kogi Police Command will continue to support credible environmental initiatives that enhance public safety and safeguard future generations.

The collaboration between the police and environmental stakeholders, he noted, is a “positive step toward building a safer, healthier, and more resilient society.”

Here is the sentence re-edited and divided into two clear, well-structured sentences:

The event ended on Thursday with commendations from residents and officers who witnessed the ceremony, praising the Police Command’s evolving role in championing both security and environmental stewardship.

CSP William Ovye Aya, Police Public Relations Officer for the Police Command in the state, disclosed this in a statement he signed and made available to The Reporters on Saturday.
