Prices Surge, Some Dip: What Shoppers Face at Lokoja International Market

As November opens, the Lokoja International Market presents a mixed bag for traders and consumers alike.

From the soaring cost of onions and red oil to slight dips in cassava and potato prices, market dynamics continue to reflect Nigeria’s fluctuating economy.

A market survey conducted on November 1, 2025, by Ahmed Aliyu Suleiman at the Lokoja International Market Food prices & Commodities on 01/11/2025 captures the latest prices of key food items and commodities that shape daily life in the confluence city.

Some buyers, who reacted to the development, in an interview with The Reporters,expressed worry with a call on the government to do the needful in bringing down the prices of food stuffs to the level of the common man.

The sellers traced the development to the harsh economic reality in the country.

They called on the Kogi State Government to consider setting up price control mechanism to check arbitrary increase in the price of food stuffs and other essential commodities, to ease life for the masses.
The sellers cited high cost of transport fare, sequel to hike in the price of petrol,as one of the major factors responsible for the high cost of food stuffs in Lokoja and its environs.
