By Dada Ahmed in Lokoja.

The Head of the Property Tax Department at the Kogi State Internal Revenue Service (KGIRS), Mal. Isah Idris, has commended property owners in the state for positively responding to the agency’s efforts to assess their properties and pay their taxes, thereby boosting revenue generation for the state’s development.
He gave the commendation in an interview with The Reporters correspondent in Lokoja on Friday while reviewing the progress made so far in implementing the Land Use Charge, which was introduced in January 2025.
According to him, KGIRS has so far assessed landed properties in Lokoja, Okene, Adavi, Ajaokuta, Kabba, and Isanlu, processing and generating data for 29,876 properties for tax assessment.
He added that the exercise will soon extend to other areas, including Anyigba and Ankpa among other local government areas of the state.
“We sent the generated assessments to property owners, and they have been responding to the satisfaction of KGIRS.
“I urge other residents to make their properties available for assessment so that the appropriate tax can be determined for the benefit of the state,” he said.
The HOD outlined the advantages of the Land Use Charge,a property tax,to include enhancing revenue collection, improving infrastructure development, and promoting fairness in land-related transactions, among others.
The basic aim, he noted, is to boost government revenue to provide social services for the people of the state, adding the rationale behind the programme is being achieved.
