The Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE) will hold its Biennial National Convention in Enugu from June 26 to 29, 2025, under the theme: “Building a Secure and Cohesive Nigeria: The Role of Dialogue, Inclusion, and the Media.”

In a joint statement signed by the Guild’s President, Mr. Eze Anaba, and General Secretary, Dr. Iyobosa Uwugiaren, the NGE announced that the convention is expected to attract over 400 editors from the print, electronic, and online media across Nigeria.

Distinguished media personalities expected at the event include Prince Sam Amuka-Pemu, Publisher of Vanguard; Chief Onyema Ugochukwu, former Presidential Spokesman; Prince Nduka Obaigbena, Chairman/Editor-in-Chief of THISDAY and Arise News Channel; and Dr. John Momoh, Chairman of Channels Television.

The convention will be formally declared open by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris Malagi.

Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State will serve as Chief Host, while Dr. John Momoh will chair the event. Prince Amuka-Pemu, Chief Segun Osoba, and Chief Onyema Ugochukwu will be honored as “Fathers of the Day.”

A major highlight will be the keynote address by the Director-General of the State Security Service (SSS), Mr. Adeola Oluwatosin Ajayi, titled “The Nation’s Security Future: Harnessing Diversity for Peace, Stability, and the Media’s Role.”

National Security Adviser, Malam Nuhu Ribadu, is also expected to attend as Special Guest.

Emphasizing the significance of the convention theme, the NGE underscored that Nigeria’s security and cohesion can be strengthened by embracing its diversity—an area where the media plays a pivotal role.

“Diversity is a source of strength, creativity, and innovation,” the Guild stated. “Inclusive governance ensures that all voices are heard in decision-making processes, and the media must promote this by fostering dialogue, tolerance, and mutual understanding.”

The Guild further noted the media’s responsibility in countering hate speech, misinformation, and stereotypes by amplifying diverse perspectives and encouraging national unity.

The convention will also feature the election of a new executive council to lead the Guild for the next two years.
