Governor Dikko Umaru Radda has pledged to review and strengthen security strategies across Katsina State following a deadly attack by bandits that claimed the lives of five community security personnel.
Our correspondent reports that the state has recently faced a surge in violent attacks, prompting mass evacuations in several communities. Residents have fled their homes in fear, leaving some areas deserted.
Governor Radda made the commitment during a visit to Maharba village in Matazu Local Government Area, where a bandit ambush led to the death of Mallam Sanusi, Commander of the Community Security Watch (C-Watch), and four of his team members.
The slain commander had been coordinating security efforts across Kusada, Kankia, and parts of Charanci LGAs.
According to reports, the team had acted on intelligence about a looming bandit invasion. While responding, they were ambushed at a stream by about 20 armed bandits on motorcycles who had hidden in nearby mango trees.
Their Hilux vehicle was set ablaze during the attack and continued to smolder as the governor arrived at the scene.
Dr. Nasiru Muazu Danmusa, Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, acknowledged the resurgence of bandit activities in the state.
However, he noted that government forces had achieved significant success, including the neutralization of 21 bandits in the Ruwan Godiya axis last Friday.
“The governor’s visit to the attack site was not only to console the affected community but also to allow for proper evaluation by the ministry to guide future actions,” Danmusa explained.
He added that the government’s assessment will inform new strategies aimed at safeguarding lives and property, and he called on residents to support ongoing efforts with prayers and patience.
Governor Radda reiterated the administration’s resolve to collaborate closely with security agencies and local stakeholders to restore lasting peace in Katsina.
