The Jos Electricity Distribution Plc (JEDC) has urged residents of Makurdi, the Benue State capital, to remain calm following a power outage caused by a violent rainstorm on Tuesday.
The storm, which wreaked havoc across the city, toppled several electricity poles and damaged properties, leading to a total blackout after all power feeders in the area tripped.
In a statement, Dr. Friday Adakole Elijah, Head of Corporate Services for JEDC in Benue State, confirmed the incident and assured customers that technical teams have been swiftly deployed to carry out repairs and restore electricity.
“We understand the inconvenience this has caused, and our teams are working tirelessly to restore power as quickly and safely as possible,” Dr. Elijah said.
He further appealed for patience and cooperation from the public, calling on both residents and security agencies to help protect electrical infrastructure from vandalism, which could hinder restoration efforts.
“We are committed to restoring normal electricity supply in Makurdi. We ask for your understanding and continued support as we navigate this emergency,” he added.
