The Nasarawa State Government has set aside a whopping N12 billion in its 2025 budget to revamp infrastructure across primary and secondary schools, the state Commissioner for Education, Dr. John Mamman, has revealed.
Speaking to journalists in Lafia on Friday, Mamman said the funding—drawn through a partnership with the Federal Government and the World Bank under the Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) would cover wide-ranging upgrades.
Breakdown of the Budget Plan.as follows:
30 new classrooms to be built across the state.
690 existing classrooms to undergo full renovation.
Provision of boreholes, toilets, and perimeter fencing to improve hygiene and security in schools.
He said that Governor Abdullahi Sule had approved and paid N150 million as counterpart funding for the first phase, with more releases expected, this year, to meet project demands.
“We are determined to raise the standard of education infrastructure across the state. “The Governor has shown commitment by making education the top budget priority since 2019,” Mamman said.
He also disclosed plans are on the way to integrate Almajiri children from Tsangaya schools into the formal education system through a bilingual learning initiative as part of the state’s push for inclusive, quality education.
In response to last year’s windstorm damage, Mamman confirmed that 80 classrooms have been repaired, with efforts ongoing to fix the rest.
To support teaching and learning, the ministry to he disclosed,has distributed instructional materials worth N46 million to both public and private secondary schools across Nasarawa.
“Anyone caught diverting these materials will face stiff penalties,” he warned.
