The 22 Armoured Brigade, Ilorin, Kogi State,has emerged champion of the 2 Division Inter-Brigade Corporal and Below Competition, held at the 12 Brigade headquarters, Chari Maigumeri Barracks, Lokoja.
The five-day competition, which began on April 7, featured six brigades: 4 Brigade Benin, 12 Brigade Lokoja, 22 Armoured Brigade Ilorin, 32 Artillery Brigade Akure, 42 Engineer Brigade Ede, and 2 Division Garrison Ibadan.
Aimed at enhancing combat proficiency, leadership, and teamwork, the contest tested participants’ military skills and discipline across multiple events.
Announcing the results at the closing ceremony, Chief Judge Col. Adeniyi Adebayo, declared 22 Brigade the winner with 430 points. 12 Brigade followed with 400 points, while 42 Engineer Brigade came third with 380 points.
32 Brigade scored 360 points to place fourth; 4 Brigade came fifth with 350 points; and 2 Division Garrison placed last with 330 points, receiving the Wooden Spoon award.
The Special Guest of Honour, Maj.-Gen. Obinna Onubogu, General Officer Commanding (GOC) 2 Division, praised the participants for their resilience, professionalism, and team spirit throughout the event.
He noted that the competition reflected purposeful training, which remains vital for enhancing the combat readiness of troops amid evolving security challenges.
“This competition is key to improving operational capacity. I urge all formations not to rest but to prepare for future contests, assuring that the Division would intensify training in line with the Chief of Army Staff’s (COAS) Command Philosophy”,he said.
The GOC expressed gratitude to COAS, Lt. Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, for sustained support in providing resources for training activities and thanked the host formation and guests for their contributions.
Earlier, Brig.-Gen. Kasim Sidi, Commander,12 Brigade, commended the soldiers for their courage, resilience, and display of professionalism during the event.
He emphasized that the competition was not about trophies, but about skills enhancement, unity, and maintaining the Army’s culture of excellence.
“What you demonstrated here proves every soldier, regardless of rank, which plays a vital role in operational success. You’ve grown stronger and more unified,” he said.
The closing event was graced by top officials from sister security agencies, including the Commander NNS Lugard, Commodore Tamuno Senibo; the DSS Director; the Commissioner of Police; and representatives of the NSCDC, FRSC, Immigration, Correctional, and Fire Services.
