The 2025 Eid-el-Fitr celebration was marked by peace and unity across Niger State as Muslim faithful joined their counterparts worldwide in commemorating the significant Islamic event.

Our correspondent reports that despite prevailing socio-economic challenges, residents found various ways to celebrate—some visited relaxation centers, others spent time with friends and family, while some chose to remain indoors or go about their daily businesses.

To ensure a secure and hitch-free celebration, the Niger State government directed security agencies to maintain a high level of vigilance.

Governor Mohammed Umar Bago, addressing thousands of worshippers at the Minna Central Eid Prayer Ground after the two-raka’at prayers, reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to maintaining peace.

Speaking through his Deputy, Comrade Yakubu Garba, the governor warned security agencies against any lapses in maintaining order, particularly in Minna, the state capital.

He emphasized that security personnel must remain not just alert but proactive in safeguarding lives and property throughout the festivities and beyond.

Governor Bago also urged wealthy individuals to extend a hand of support to the less privileged, reinforcing the spirit of compassion and unity that Eid symbolizes.

The governor dvised youths to resist any temptations that could lead to a breakdown of peace during and after the celebrations.

Expressing gratitude to traditional rulers, elders, and stakeholders for their counsel and prayers, the governor prayed for continued wisdom and guidance for community leaders in managing their respective domains.

In his sermon (Khutba), the new Chief Imam of Minna Central Mosque, Malam Jibril Isah Imam, who was leading the Eid prayers for the first time since succeeding the late Sheikh Isa Fari, congratulated Muslims on witnessing another Eid.

Dignitaries at the prayer session include former Governor of the dye,Dr. Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu, the Emir of Minna, Alhaji Umar Faruk Bahago, some members of the State Executive Council, and Mohammed Babangida, the eldest son of former Military President Ibrahim Babangida.
